LOCKLETTER

AAUW  Lock Haven Branch

Lock Haven, PA

Diane Whitaker, President

Editor:  Bobbie Way

President’s Message

Dear AAUW Members,

Tai Chi, relaxation, exercise, health and wellness – all words explaining our January meeting.  I hope those who attended had a good time and were able to continue the basic movements that we learned.  February’s meeting will continue a health aspect with guest speaker, Rich Wykoff, who will tell us about Stem Cell Research.  Please plan to attend and remain after the meeting for a healthy luncheon of soup and sandwiches prepared by the board.

Continuing on the topic of living well – Valentine’s Day will soon be upon us – what better time to create a valentine for a loved one – spouse, child, grandchild or friend; put the ice cream in the back of the freezer for a week; re-invent yourself with a new cut or hairstyle; and take a nap to reduce stress and boost creativity.  I assure you one or all will make you feel better.

Till we meet in February,

                                                                                                               President Diane

February Meeting

Rebecca Gross Room
Ross Library

Lunch provided by our board members.

Luncheon Choices

There will be three kinds of soup, sandwiches, vegetables, hot and cold beverages, and desserts to share with all who attend this interesting program.

The tentative schedule is to have Rich’s presentation, the meeting, and then lunch. Non-members are able to sit in during the meeting or to look around the library during the meeting and then come back upstairs for lunch.

A bit about our guest presenter

Richard Wycoff

Our guest speaker for the February 6th meeting is Richard Wykoff.  Rich is one of Clinton County’s greatest assets.  He searches for connections of past events and clues of how life here used to be.  More than a teacher, he is a sharer of the wonder and excitement of this discovery.  Combining this with providing others with the tools and resources to organize and present our local stories in multi-media formats.  The sharing experience of all the searching and organizing and presenting creates immense appreciation by those who worked diligently on so many projects about how our past is part of our present.  To the rest of us who benefit from reading about or seeing the work that has been done, it is more than a precious gift, it is an invitation to get involved and put our own fingerprints on the pages.

On February 6th at 10 a.m. at Ross Library’s Rebecca Gross Room, we have asked Rich to tell us about his very personal journey with this breakthrough scientific technology.  When his lymphoma returned, he went to Jeanes Hospital in Philadelphia to see if he could be a candidate for stem cell therapy.  This is where this chapter of his story starts.

We will all have an extended time to speak with Rich after the meeting as the AAUW Board is preparing a hot soup luncheon for all who attend.

Rich attended Bucktail High School and Lock Haven University, achieving an Education degree.  His Masters is from Penn State.  He is retired from Keystone Central School District.

Rich is married to Kim Wykoff who is a Diabetes Educator at Divine Province Hospital.  They have two grown children.  Alex is a software designer working for Mini-Tab in State College and he has spent several years living in South Korea.  Emily has two sons, and owns a coffee shop in Altoona.  Emily’s degrees are in Psychology and Dance.

Rich’s dad was a well known forest ranger in this area.

Besides his family, Rich feels that he belongs to our community.  He is grateful that it has supported him and he wants to share his gifts to make it the very best that it can be.

His influence will be gratefully appreciated for generations to come.
