LOCKLETTER

AAUW  Lock Haven Branch

Lock Haven, PA

Diane Whitaker, President

Editor:  Bobbie Way

President’s Message

Good Day Members,

Linda Frye, with support from the Bylaws Committee (Jackie Whitling, Carol Hildebrand, Elizabeth Brobst and Diane Whitaker), presented the mandatory changes to be made and various non-mandatory changes we may wish to make to our Bylaws.  The packet was sent to State and sent back with a few corrections for the mandatory changes and suggestions for non-mandatory changes.  I’m sure Linda will be able to update us at the November meeting.

Another issue we are all concerned about is the payment of our AAUW dues to State and National.  I have been assured from Angela that deposits were made and the checks were mailed.

Our next meeting will be held at Ross Library, November 5 at 7 p.m.  We will hear April Henry speak on Leadership Clinton County, which encourages the growth of individual potential.  Are there AAUW members, other than President Diane, that have gone through the program?  Our hostess that night is Andie Bennett.

Till we meet in November

                                                                                                                                          President Diane

December in November

AAUW’s December meeting will rush the holiday season a little and occur in November.  We will be attending the LHU's Community concert on Sunday, November 22, at 3:00 in Price Auditorium at LHU.  After the concert the group plans on going to Uncle Albert’s, 312 N. Vesper Street, Lock Haven, for dinner.

Parking for the concert will be in the lot near the PUB and in the lot off Fairview Street which was the former location of the Silk Mill.  A shuttle bus will be running beginning at 2:15 from both of these locations and will also run after the concert.

PLEASE contact Laura Long (748-7316) if you are planning on attending the supper afterwards so that she can let Uncle Albert’s know how many to expect.

Educational Foundation

This note was received from one of our scholarship recipients:

AAUW Members,

Thank you all for your generosity in awarding me a grant to continue my education.  Meeting you all at the dinner held in September was truly a pleasure and something I will cherish.  You all are amazing women that I feel privileged to have met, and I promise to work hard not to let you down.  Have a great year and best of luck in your endeavors!

Thank you again for everything!  This donation made it possible for me to continue my education.  For that I am truly grateful.

Sincerely,

Kristi Byrne

AAUW Sets the Record Straight:  Headlines

Corporate lobbyists forged one or more letters from AAUW to members of Congress. This blatant act of fraud is unacceptable.  As AAUW's Linda Hallman and Lisa Maatz have pointedly said, "how dare they trade on AAUW's good reputation?" The media and online community have echoed our concerns and indignation.
