President’s Message

Dear AAUW Members,

It was my pleasure to present our AAUW Senior Award to CMHS student Sarah Bechdel at the CMHS Award Program; our Bucktail HS Senior awardee was Ashley Nichole Kshir.  Each student received $50.00 based on the student’s community and school service.

Thank you, Elizabeth Brobst, for chairing the Scholarship Committee and to her committee members who met, read, and decided on the 2009 awardees.  Please come to the September pot-luck meeting to meet our college scholarship awardees.

Pat Burd reported another successful Blood Cross Drive.  We had 48 donors, lots of help as runners and in food donations - and all the food was eaten.  Thanks to Pat for coordinating the project.  I understand that we will need a new coordinator for 2010.  Please let me know if you would be interested in this position.

The Executive Board members met in June and we can expect a wonderful year of programs.  I want to thank Laura Long and Roberta Doyle for finding educational, health oriented, and entertaining programs.  When you receive your yearbook, mark your calendar for you won’t want to miss a meeting.  Notice also the various meeting locations; there have been some changes from last year.

I received the results of the Lock Haven AAUW-PA Every Member Survey.  Six members responded between January – May 2009.  One was against including non-college people, but changed her mind stating that there are a number of community folks who would benefit the organization and agree with the organization’s mission.  The other five members felt that the changes weaken and dilute its ability to fulfill its mission, that the honor of belonging to a professional group of university women is no longer being considered and that the changes are lowering the bar to get members.  This year will be a real learning curve for us all.

If you haven’t paid your dues, I hope you will strongly consider.  Checks should be made payable to AAUW and sent to Angela Black, 28 South Summit St., Lock Haven, PA 17745.

Till we meet in September!

                                    Diane

First Meeting

Thursday

September 3

6:00 p.m.

Lock Haven Hospital’s
Extended Care Community Room

Please bring a covered dish to share.

Your table service (plate, napkin, flatware, etc) and beverage will be supplied.

We look forward to a crowd and a wonderful start to a great year for our chapter!

Directions to the Community Room
L.H. Hospital’s Extended Care Unit (ECU)

Facing the Hospital from Cree Drive (the hospital’s main entrance), the ECU is located on the west (right) side.  It is separated from the main building by a drive/underpass.

Use the entrance to the western-most parking lot (which leads directly into the ECU); ample parking should be available in that lot.  Enter through the ECU’s automatic double-doors and walk straight ahead to the community room.
