Diane Whitaker
presented the program, Remembering the Fifties,
using one of the Bifolkal Kits available from the Ross
Library. A sing along included Howdy Doody Time, Rock
Around the Clock, and Happy Trails.
JoAnn Marcinkevage,
following a brief biography, presented the Gateway to
Equity Award to Bobbie Jo Simcox. A lovely bouquet
accompanied the certificate. Ms. Simcox’s thank you was
eloquent.
President Bennett
called the business meeting to order at 8:10 PM.
As there were no
additions or corrections to the minutes of the last meeting,
the minutes stand approved as presented.
A detailed
Treasurer’s Report, submitted by A. Black, was read by R.
Doyle. As of 03.06.08, the checking account balance is
$2451.55 and the savings account balance is $1550.18 for a
total of $4003.05. The Treasurer’s Report accepted and
placed on file.
Committee Reports:
Program:
The next meeting April 3rd will be discussion of the book,
“Where the Heart Is”.
Membership:
M. Long is in the process of reviewing her materials.
She distributed applications for memberships to those
requesting them. Noting that if you get someone to join,
you will receive a certificate. Window stickers are
available. M. Long had the members introduce
themselves and welcomed the two newest members, J. Bowes and
J. Almes. C. W. Pollard recommended that applications
for membership be available at the book sale. She is also
willing to do an accompanying information and history
display. Consensus of the group was that this was a great
idea.
Care & Concern:
Linda Frye had both knees replaced and is doing well.
Price & Sort:
T. Tomasi stated that help is still needed. She thanked the
LHU Men’s Soccer Team for their help. The garage is full.
The schedule is going around and each member is asked to
sign up for a minimum of 4 hours. Help is needed
specifically on Thursday morning. C. Hildebrand
reported that for the second year, we would be receiving the
maximum grant of $1600.00 from Thrivent financial for
Lutherans.
Write Read
Write: L. Long has displayed the books collected on
table in the back. The books are going to two fifth
grade classes at Renovo Elementary. She will be calling
next week to make arrangements to deliver the books. Anyone
interested in accompanying her should talk to her. Ms.
Long also had voter registration forms and requests for
absentee ballots available for anyone interested. Ms.
Long said that Mayor Villelo is running for U.S. Congress
(Rep. Petersen’s vacant seat). You may want to check out
his website or blog.
Scholarship:
B. Brobst distributed flyers to be posted. The committee
has reformatted the application and will be bringing it to
the next meeting. Last year, there were only three
applicants. She stressed the need to get the information
out there. She also is passing the envelope for LAF.
A. Bennett reported
04.26.08 is the date for the Children’s Festival. She will
be in contact with Lisa May to have a sign up sheet
available at April’s meeting.
P. Burd reported
that Susan Rickers is to call her back about the Bloodmobile
we usually schedule in June. J. Marcinkevage stated that
they are consolidating the bloodmobiles and offered that as
a reason she has not called back. P. Burd will contact Ms.
Rickers again and if it is a go will have sign up sheets at
the book sale.
C. W. Pollard has
been publicizing AAUW at LHU’s web site and is going to
extend her efforts to the paper.
Publicity:
Jim Runkle from The Express was here before the
meeting to take pictures for an article in The Express.

Refreshments and
lively discussion followed. The members wish to
congratulate fellow member, Bonnie Rosamilia, for being
named Teacher of the Year for the South Williamsport
School District.
